Rafting Expedition
A range of rafting options is available on the Zanskar River (Ladakh) and its major tribute. The best stretch for professional guided runs in white water is on the Zanskar river between Padum & Nimu.The most difficult but exciting option for river running is on Zanskar along its spectacular courser through the gorge in Zanskar mountains, between Padum to Nimu.This is suitable for well organized white water expedition, prepared for several day fo river running and camping in absolute wilderness. Participants are required to be trained rafters themselves while the arrangements should be assigned to a dependable professional agency. Adequate arrangements for rescue coverage are an essential pre-requisite for embarking upon a white-water expedition on river like the Zanskar.
White-Water Expedition trips begins with the flight over the Himalaya into the Trans Himalayan religion of Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. We spend few days in Leh town acclimatizing at 11,000 feet above sea level and visiting ancient monasteries,palaces,villager around Leh.We drive west of Leh past the town of Kargil and travel south in to the valley of Zanskar.The trip takes you down the extremely desolate, remote and sheer Zankskar gorge with walls rising a few thousand feet out of the river bed.
Early morning fly Delhi-Leh.An hours of spectacular flight over the Greater Himalayas, with views stretching as far as K2 in the west and entire Zanskar range and of Tibet beneath. On arrival at Leh KBR airport you will met our representative, transfer to hotel. Hotel for Check in. Complete day for rest and leisure to acclimatize to Leh’s high altitude of 11500 feet. Evening Visit to Leh Palace & Shanti Stupa. Overnight at Hotel.
DAY 02: MONSTERY EXCURTION:-
Post Breakfast we proceed for Indus Valley Monastery tour including Shey palace, The ancient capital of Ladakh, Thiksey an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village and later visit Hemis monastery & Drive return to Leh on the way visiting Mahabodhi, The only center in Ladakh to conduct Dharma talks and meditation programs. Overnight at hotel in Leh.
DAY 03:-LEH TO KARGIL(180kms):-
We drive from Leh to Kargil en root Magnetic hill(Defines Gravity),Sangam(Confluence)of Indus & Zanskar river and through a spectacular moonscape. We drive over Fotu La(14.000ft),a high mountain pass, exciting the Indus valley and entire of Suru valley.En root,we visit Lamayuru monastery known to be one of the oldest monastery among the Red Hat sect. Over Night in Kargil.
DAY 04:KARGIL TO RANGDUM:-
Drive Kargil-Rangdum(12,000ft).A spectacular driver past Panikhar and Parkachik,with magnificent views of Nun and Kun massifs(7000 meters),hanging glaciers and large meadows. We drive till Rangdum Gompa(12,000 ft)Over Night.
DAY 05:RANGDUM TO REMALA(6 Hrs):-
We drive to Remala which is the starting point for the rafting trip on the Doda river, a tributary of the Zanskar river. We drive over Pensi La(14,500 ft)which enables grand views of the Zanskar peaks at the bottom of which is the Drung Drung glacier that feeds the Zanskar river,40 Km below, into which we flow trip the next day. Over Night in tented camp.
DAY 06: RAFTING EXPEDITION:-
Rafting expedition begins at Ramila. Raft till karsha Gompa,near Padum. We raft 30 km in 5 hours which include break for lunch and hot beverages. We are surrounded by 6000 meter high peaks. River section today includes a Class II sectional good introduction for first timers as well as to the river in general. After settling in to camp by afternoon, we take a hike to Karsha Gompa for the evening incantation.
DAY 07: RAFTING EXPEDITION:-
After late morning start, we raft at karsha up to Pidmu.This stretch is approximately 30km with Class II & III rapids. After stalling in to the camp by mid afternoon. We visit nearby villages of Pidmu & Hanomil.
DAY 08:RAFTING EXPEDITION:-
After packing camp, we raft 20Km to Nyerak,a Class III section. The gorge marrows in on the River-this indeed is a Grand Canyon in its own right. We stop for the day to pitch camp in a gorge below Nayrak village.
DAY 09: RAFTING EXPEDITION:-
Today 35 Km rafting section takes us from Nayrak to Lamaguru, through the core of the Zanskar.A classic white water day with continuous Class III rapids & a few Class IV rapids where the river squeezes between a gap of above 18 ft.We stop for lunch near a huge water fall at the confluence of Markha river with Zanskar river. Rock formations, spires and an amazing palette of colors add to the trip today.
DAY 10: RAFTING EXPEDITION:-
We raft 40 Kms of Class III/IV white water from Lamaguru to Nimu today. The point where confluence of the Zanskar with the Indus river. After ending the trip, we drive back to Leh.Over Night in Hotel in Leh.
DAY 11: LEASURE DAY:-
Leh, Reserved day for shopping, sightseeing etc.Over Night in Hotel in Leh.
DAY 12: DEPART DELHI (FLY OUT):-
Tour concludes. Travel To Himalaya thank you for your patronage and ensure a punctual transfer to International Airport to catch the flight for your onward journey towards home.
